Gifted Independent Mentored Study


GIMS is the acronym for the Gifted Independent Mentored Study program at Lisle Senior High School.  Students that have been identified as gifted are invited during their junior and senior years to participate in this program that offers them the opportunity to enhance their education beyond the walls of LSHS.  If they volunteer to be a part of GIMS they are asked to develop a personal curriculum in an area of study that they have a particular interest in and work toward the completion of a project related to that area.  They are then paired with a mentor who is an expert in that area of interest and they are expected to work closely with their mentor to develop an appropriate learning experience.  The GIMS coordinator meets with each student on a weekly basis to discuss their research, mentor contact, and work towards the completion of their project. 

We are proud of our GIMS students because this voluntary program goes above and beyond the students’ normal school expectations and the projects and research presented at the culminating “GIMS Night” have shown effort, rigor, and impressive outcomes by the participants.
